What did we find? First, the station histories are unremarkable. There are no reasons for any large corrections. But we were astonished to find that strong adjustments have indeed been made.
About half the adjustments actually created a warming trend where none existed; the other half greatly exaggerated existing warming. All the adjustments increased or even created a warming trend, with only one (Dunedin) going the other way and slightly reducing the original trend.
The shocking truth is that the oldest readings have been cranked way down and later readings artificially lifted to give a false impression of warming, as documented below. There is nothing in the station histories to warrant these adjustments and to date Dr Salinger and NIWA have not revealed why they did this.
One station, Hokitika, had its early temperatures reduced by a huge 1.3°C, creating strong warming from a mild cooling, yet there’s no apparent reason for it. -

YET Obama has vowed that he will get Cap and Trade as law, and has promised that to Europe! Apparently he has no respect for the legislative process or the wishes of America in general. He is truly the "American Taliban" and a traitor against America! Sane legislators must stop this insanity, to preserve our economy. It is ironic that the earth is now COOLING as these traitors push this agenda! STOP CAP AND TRADE! Rising energy bills are not enough? The economy is on the brink of DISASTER right now! Who is going to pay another 25 bucks a month, much less 100 to 150! This whole deal shows how far detached these idiots are from real life! For what? This will not do a thing to abate "global warming," if indeed we even affect such questionable issues. Obama and his cohorts are either out to destroy our economy and way of life, or they are absolute LUNATICS!

A little more about the environmental GENIOUS, Obama. Those "tune-ups" he suggested last year to help save energy have not been applicable AT ALL on cars made since the early nineties. Autos made since then are to be "tuned-up" every 100000 miles. Hardly a regular event! Only "clunkers" made prior to that and "classics" that are rarely driven anyway need such service. Again, the ignorant fool doesn't have a CLUE what he is talking about! He is much like a parrot, repeating someone's words or reading off a teleprompter screen. He is no more than a trained MONKEY! SO MUCH FOR LEADERSHIP AND INTELLECT!

fritz1021, it is the "global warming" panic advocates that are the LIARS! Man as a cause of climate change is total JUNK science. Al Gore is an IDIOT with a JOURNALISM degree, for God's sake! But let's say for just one minute that there is an element of truth to this "man caused climate change." If Asia and the third world don't take these "drastic measures," what we do amounts to spitting in the wind! It would lower the earth's temperature on average less than .2 degrees in fifty years! Boy that is going to be big! The bottom line here is that this bill is about LOWERING our standards to the third world and making a bunch of money for investors like Al gore and companies such as GE. This is NOT about saving the PLANET!

What I'm wondering is, if global warning is all just a hoax, why is it that glaciers world-wide are retreating at a rapid rate, as can be seen by comparing photos from different years, and the ice shields on both Greenland and Antarctica are diminishing in thickness and area covered? If there is no global warning, what is causing these changes? Perhaps the ice is in on the plot?

If global warming is such a sure thing, then why is it we are breaking record low temps? I for one can still clearly remember when 30 years ago science said we were going into an 'ice age' and there was nothing we could do to stop it. I haven't seen an ice age yet and now they have decided we are going to boil. Just tells me they don't know what they are talking about.
